Whittier, Alaska

August 30th – Saturday - 2008:

WHITTIR, Alaska – is situated on the western hedge of Prince William Sound. This area was used by prospecting miners during the gold rush since it was the quickest passage from Cook Inlet to the interiors of Alaska. The city itself is a historical area, established by the US Army during World War II. There are over 700,00 tourist visitors each year.

Our shuttle dropped us right at the embarkation baggage check in. I forgot the tags that Princess Cruise sent me, so I had to ask the porters to give us tags for our luggage. It was a very easy check, even easier than checking in the airport terminal. As soon as we all boarded up, the ship conducted its mandatory emergency evacuation to familiarize everyone the different locations where they should go in case of an emergency. We sailed right on schedule, we left the dock at exactly 6PM, the weather was perfect, not too cold, watching the lights as we left the port. We set sail for our first major glacier spot to see, the College Fjord Glacier.

That evening, we had our dinner at the main dining restaurant, as everyone know you can order anything from the menu. After dinner, we went exploring, we toured the Promenade (like a 3 story open Mall), they had the excursion desk on the main floor, shops in the 2nd and 3rd floors. There were 4 shopping stores all in the Promenade area, see through elevator, piano bar, a violinist was playing when we visited the main lounge and bar area. I started this tour to begin my site inspection report.

We watched a show in the main theater, the performer was a comic who appeared in Jay Leno and other talk shows, I recognized his face just could not remember his name. It was a hilarious evening, even my mother in law was having a good time.
